John Lathwell
About Me
John Lathwell is the principal oboist of the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Tri-Cities Opera (Binghamton, NY) and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra (Ithaca, NY). Mr. Lathwell has freelanced extensively in both upstate New York and New York City, including performances with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Albany Symphony and regular appearances with the Syracuse Symphony (Symphoria).

In the New York City area John has performed with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the American Composers Orchestra among others and has played at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y and the Metropolitan Museum.
Since moving to the Washington DC area in 2014 John has performed with the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, the Apollo Orchestra, the Annapolis Symphony, the Alexandria Symphony and the Fairfax Symphony among many others.
History
My Story
Mr. Lathwell was on the music faculty of Binghamton University from 1988-2014 and taught at the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts for ten summers from 1998-2008. He has also taught at Ithaca College and maintains active private studio. Mr. Lathwell received a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. His primary teachers have been Joseph Robinson, principal oboist of the New York Philharmonic (retired) and Richard Killmer, oboe professor at the Eastman School of Music.
